Type tool

1.0 tool

Lets you create framed and unframed type layers.

The create an unframed layer just click where you want the baseline to start.

To create a framed layer, drag a rectangle which will define the width that the text will flow into. The height doesn't matter here, since the height will just grow to contain as much text as you enter. With framed type layers, if you go into edit mode by placing the cursor inside, you'll see a bounding box with a control handle on the right hand side. Drag this to adjust the frame's width.

You can specify typeface, font variant, size, color, and decorations such as underline for either specific character runs or for the entire layer. To change for the entire layer, select the layer but don't be in edit mode. You can always exit edit mode with a) Command+Enter b) Checkmark button in the tool options or c) select a different layer than re-select.

Special features available to Type layers:

  • Rasterize

Type sizes are always specified in "points" so this is one of the few places that the document's resolution matters. The size in pixels of your type will be font size (pt) * resolution (dpi) / 72.
